Dr. Husserl brings a Holistic Approach to Women’s Health Care.

A unique medical career path deeply influences the way Dr. Husserl, an OB-GYN, interacts with and cares for patients.

Dr. Husserl — a Bellmore native and graduate of the town’s John F. Kennedy High School — grew up listening to and watching his mother, a nutritionist, espouse the importance of nutrition to overall health. This experience piqued his interest in science and led him to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in nutritional sciences at Cornell University.

“I found several of my most interesting undergraduate courses to be those that dealt with the physical chemistry of how the body breaks down food, as well as how this relates to the body’s physiologic systems and fosters normal or abnormal conditions,” Dr. Husserl says. “In the field of OB-GYN, many of the conditions I routinely see in patients, such as polycystic ovary syndrome [PCOS], are directly related to nutrition-associated abnormalities, such as insulin resistance.

New Hyde Park OBGYN Office Reopens

On Sept. 1, about a year after a building fire and subsequent water damage devastated the New Hyde Park office of the Long Island Women’s Health Care Group, Dr. Gary Levine, president of the practice, reopened its doors.

“You have to basically start all over again and just rebuild from the ground up,” he said of reconnecting with his former base of 2,000 patients, who had gone elsewhere in the year the office was under construction.
